The first picture is of Bill Monroe and Mick Martin playing together at a concert. Flatpicking the acoustic guitar(Bluegrass)along with Fingerpicking (COUNTRY BLUES)is Mick's genre of acoustic music. Mick Martin had a Bluesgrass Band called, "THE BLUEFIELD BOYS" back in the late 70's, early 80's. Mick sang tenor and played the acoustic guitar and played some Fingerpicking tunes with the band.
The second picture is Mick Martin, Mike Salsburg and David Bromberg playing at a party. Mike Salsburg is a wonderful violinist who played with such greats as Billy Joel and many others. Dave Bromberg plays Acoustic Guitar. Dave's genre of music is COUNTRY BLUES Fingerpicking style along with Flatpicking when he plays with his bluegrass band. Dave and Mike play together quite often when they get together in Delaware. Mick Martin and Mike Salsburg played in a jug band along with Harry Waller, Mike Michaelchen and John Humphrey.
The third picture is of Skip James. This photo was taken at Illick's Mill when Mick was a young man. "After seeing Skip James playing, I decided that I wanted to learn how to play 'Country Blues" on the acoustic guitar. I watched Skip and his wife play that evening. I never thought that it was possible to get such a sound out of an instrument. I hadn't even owned an acoustic guitar or heard about "country Blues" until I heard this man play. His wife played the piaon and he played the guitar. I also remember that he was very sick at that time and couldn't play for very long...God, he was good! Later when the album "CREAM" was released, I noticed that "I'm So Glad" was written by Skip James. It was one of the songs that he performed that evening. Eric Clapton does a fine job on that song and Eric playes "COUNTRY BLUES on acoustic guitar as well. Thanks to "The Stones and Ericc Clapton for recording these great "COUNTRY BLUES" songs on their albums. They helped a great deal in keeping "Country Blues" alive."
